2024 Lights On Afterschool Celebration in Pennsylvania
Afterschool programs are not just a place for learning—they are a solution to some of Pennsylvania’s most pressing challenges, including school absenteeism, learning loss recovery, and workforce development. By connecting students, parents, businesses and volunteers, these programs help build stronger communities. Lights On Afterschool is a national celebration hosted by the Afterschool Alliance, and Usher is the honorary chair for 2024 Lights On Afterschool.
On Oct. 23, 2024, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, Pennsylvania Education Secretary Dr. Khalid N. Mumin, state legislators, and Tumi Ojo, Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew member, joined Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN) members to commemorate 20 years of impact by celebrating Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide event that emphasizes the critical role of afterschool programs. Governor Shapiro also signed a proclamation celebrating Lights On Afterschool where he encourages “all Pennsylvanians to support the efforts of afterschool programs in the development of our Commonwealth’s children.”
